Summary of information:

Claim # 10010

Elizabeth Ann (Hill) Higdon, 44, applied for widowâs pension on October 7, 1862.

John T. Higdon married Elizabeth Ann Hill January 15, 1839 in Grayson Co., Ky.

John T. Higdon enrolled in Ky 27th Co. A October 20, 1861, mustered in March 21, 1862 as a Private at Litchfield, Grayson Co., Ky. and died July 13, 1862 in Athens, Alabama in Army of the Ohio, cause of death was Îchronic diarrhoeaâ.

Elizabeth Ann Higdon died March 2, 1866 and was buried in the Burying Ground at the Catholic Church near Grayson Springs, Grayson County, Ky.

Elizabeth Ann Higdon and John T. Higdon were survived by one child, son Bennet Higdon, who was 35 years old and living in Grayson County in 1877.

Muster roll dated March 29, â65 reports John U. Higdon was discharged at Louisville, Ky July 28, â62. (Note: this is difficult to read)

There seemed to be confusion about the identity, since he was know as both John and Thomas AND there was a soldier on the roll John U. Higdon. The death was not immediately reported to the until Nov. 1865.

This claim was rejected June of 1877 because the claimant had died and the surviving child was no longer a minor.
